Spyders that are drying up

Sirgalant, I feel your pain. Here in South Africa there is also a substantial mark-up. I have ordered a couple of knives over the net, and touch wood, have never lost one, but it sometimes takes forever to get here. But the stress of waiting is really bad. I usually shop around locally for the best price. Furthermore, there is nothing like handling a knife before you buy it.

i`m australia , don`t forget. and the store wants $550 aussie dollars for the titanium ATR . which i would pay if i had the cash

my girlfriend paid that for my ATR TI - and i would pay it again, however, i should be able to find one cheaper elsewhere
i also know which shop you are talking about and was wondering where all the older spydies are going
they still have a SE worker and a toad that i am seriously looking at.

Here we have a saying of "knock on wood" that would be used in the same context. I wonder if they mean the same thing. Such as, "I haven't been sick all year, knock on wood" meaning "I haven't been sick all year, I hope my saying that doesn't cause bad voodoo and I drop dead tomorrow" :D

Don't worry - if an old one becomes really "rare" or popular then they will have a sprint run and make lots more! Hard to call them collectable.... :)

Horns, Calys, Co-Pilots ...............

Andre , what are the knife laws in africa?

The one good thing about SA is that you can carry any type of knife you please! From balis to autos and everything in between!

BOK, how about larger blades, like machetes?

You can carry any reasonable sized blade here, without restrictions. As for the carrying of a machete, i think the "reasonable man" rationality would apply..... if you used it in your work or carried it concealed, no biggie, but if you are "brandishing" the machete and behaving in an aggressive manner - blue lights and sirens (eventually) for you.

I generally carry at leat 3 blades a day, one of them being a fixed blade. I often carry double edged fixed blades, but don't own any autos. And no, i have not had it in my head yet to walk down the road with my CS Kukri ;)

There are certain places where you are not allowed to carry weapons, but this applies mainly to firearms with all other potential weapons being secondary (banks, post offices etc). Yes, people do get stabbed here, but the overwhelming majority of violent crimes is committed with illegal firearms. The authorities have never been too excited about knives as it doesn't warrant as much attention.

Zenheretic, the "wood" phrase means the same :)

wellington surplus has them, my girlfriend asked them to order in a PE one
i did the same with a surefire U2
i probably could have bought both items on the net a lot cheaper, but didnt have paypal or a credit card at the time

i meant that the only people i know of other then wellington surplus who have an ti ATR are the AKC. wellington surplus has a huge markup compared to internet , but at least when you buy from them you don`t run the risk of having your item confiscated/held up by customs

Speaking of certain models that are really disappearing from the landscape>> The Titanium handled ATR is evaporating at a very rapid rate. The knife never really had great availability even when it was in production. But I am starting to see it become in heavy demand among collectors> not just Spyderco collectors either because there are 2 collector friends of mine who really don't care much about Spyderco but they like the Ti ATR and the Gunting.

I think we are truly seeing major collector trends developing right in front us. And it doesn't seem like fuel prices or the overall economy is having any kind of negative effect on it either. Well guys I know I'm not the only one noticing some of these early 2000 to 2003 models starting to ripen. Which ones are you all seeing?
