The pocket clip on my G10 Rookie was black, which was cool until it started showing some scratches due to much use!

So..I took it off yesterday and sanded off the black coating, then polished it with 400, then 600 grit. It looks great! A nice satin finish on the outside, with the black coating left on the underside. It's a little thing, but heck, it makes me happy! I'll say it again: that Rookie is one great knife!

Up here in the "Great North Woods" we call what you got Cabin Fever.

Delica98 clip - same story, BUT I used a ScotchBrite pad on both sides (needed scratch lines on the back to epoxy the clip that had bitten into the Zytel). Plus, I polished the fastener on the clip side too. Now I have a nice satin clip and matching fastener and the flip side is still all black. Looks cool

LOL, you got me! I've been couped up here for two days now due to the 18" of snow outside. All my knives are sharp now, including everything in the kitchen! They are cleaned and lubed, too. Next up I'm going to rinse out all the kydex sheaths, put fobs on a few fixed blades, then probably go and cut up a bunch of cardboard boxes so I can sharpen them again! Meanwhile, there are two packages waiting for me at the office, each with shiny sharp things inside. Woe is me.

i just did the same thing recently. i gave a micarta calypso jr. to my dad, trying to turn him on to knives, but i had used it. so i sharpened it up, but the clip looked pretty bad. so i scotchbrited the top side and the heads of the screws and finished it off by using OOOO steel wool. if i may say so myself, IT LOOKS CLASSY

ptpalpha- hope you get out of that mess soon

Good ideas, guys. The satin-finish look might well be more unobtrusive/less threatening in appearance than the black, especially with dress slacks. I tend to keep my daily carry Rookie unclipped in my pocket because it otherwise tends to stick out with a suit, etc...

ptpalpha,

We only got about a foot out of this one, and the snow blower started on the first try so things are not too bad!

Thanks for the idea guys. I'm going to try it on my '98 Delica right now.

I just finished polishing the clip my my delica. It turned out great! Much better than I expected. A nice matte finish. And what's better is that the Spyderco logo is still black.

Johnny, yeah, I forget to mention that the logo stays black when you do it. Very cool!

We have a winter storm too here in Oklahoma.
The clip on my new Standard was also satin black.
I scratched some of the paint off wearing it clipped to my pocket and it looked pretty bad.
I just finished the suggested process and am delighted with the results.
In fact, I think it looks better, but it will now stand out when I wear dark slacks.
Thanks for the tip.

Well, living here in sunny southern California, the only time I've been spending inside is here online, but if it ever does turn ugly (translation... about .05 inches of rain) I think I'll try that trick.
