Spydie Delica or Native?

Delicrazy: have a hammer you want me to try on?:D

It's all in experience. I can sharpen in my sleep right handed, left handed I still have to pay attention.

I've had my calypso jr long enough that I can keep it moving between 2 grip positions and still have a full grip on it(forward grip edge down and reverse grip edge front). That only took me abour 3months to get down 100% into muscle memory, either hand.

vampyrewolf,
one of these days, I should send something for you to put a scary sharp edge on. I have never been able to get scary sharp edges that cut hair above the skin ("tree-top"), even with my edgepro and at 30 deg included.

garageboy,
sorry I didn't mention this earlier, if you can't handle both, then check out the spyderco forum at www.spyderco.com. There's a picture posted showing the native and the calypso jr side by side. they look about the same size but they have very different bladeshapes and handles.

If you're going for sharpness, blade grind (for eg. full flat grind vs. sabre-hollow grind) does theorectically make a difference. I try and go for full flat grinds as much as I can, or, at least high hollow grinds.

Spyken: I have 1 knife at 40, 1-2 at 30... the rest are under. Most of the time I sharpen as low as I can get away with(depends on steel).

I prefer flat grind knives to put low edges on, because then if I scratch the side I can use the dremel(with buffing wheel and veritas green) and put on a mirror finish again.

I have to speak up for the Native. It is my favorite Spyderco of all except for maybe, just maybe the new Dodo. I think that all available versions of the Native (SS, S30V, III) are great knives with wonderful ergonomics. The Delica is great, I just love the Native.

I have a Delica and a Native, to me the Native is comfortable in a saber grip with index on the choil and uncomfortable any other way, I find the Delica a lot more comfortable in various grips. They are also very different in shape and strengh of the blade, I feel they are not made to do the same jobs. Delica for simple general use, not made to be abused, tip is sharp and delicate. Native, tougher, good for poking on harder materials and cutting from a saber grip, not too good for whittling and delicate things.

Choose according to your needs.

I really like both of these knives, but if I had to choose only one it would be the Native S30V or VG10.

Another vote for the Calypso, Jr. All of the knives mentioned are great, but the Calypso Jr. just screams "use me". It broke down all of our cardboard boxes after Christmas and did great.
