I'm looking for a new EDC, but not sure which model will fill the bill.

I'm on the hunt for a studless 3.5"-4" non-lockback folder, so Spydie Hole is on the duty roster! Linerlock is fine. Other lock options? Love the Native Chief, but the back lock precludes it from consideration. I prefer above average steel, but not a super expensive knife (think $150'ish or so for price).

Current EDC is BM Axis lock Volli in S30V. But it is tip up only & has thumb studs that occasionally Emerson themselves on edge of pocket when I ain't expecting it. Only bit of Sal's wares I have is a Manix 2 that would end the search right now if it would go tip down.

Many TIA for any Spydie Wisdom you can offer.

Military is 4" and tip down. Upgraded steel is going to be more then 150$..
would suggest the, Kapara 20cv, but it's only tip up.. would fit price.

Manix is 4 way clip.. Lots of steels, to choose from but it's not even 3.5".. would fit your price..

Leans ya towards the, Shaman! 3.6" blade.. not lockback, tip down, upgraded steel options.. towards your price range, for CTS-XHP

Stainless or carbon steel ? Flat ground or you dont care?

Shaman or gb

If you don't mind tip down
Military all day, if you watch the sales some times you can get a user at a great price

RokJok RokJok you must be referring to the Manix 2 XL that you have? I have also often wished it would go tip down.

ETA: Never mind I just looked it up and I guess I forgot that the regular sized Manix is also tip up only. Been a while since I had one in hand.

S35vn tenacious , $95 and great liner lock EDC

I second this, or the new Resilience when it comes out. At that time, if I can afford to, I will buy both.

The Chief is currently Spyderco's top performer IMO. I believe it's a mistake to disregard it solely based on lock type. Barring that, I'd go with a Millie or PM2.

Stainless as a strong preference. Flat grind is pretty much mandatory. Thx for refining the specs.

Price could drift into the $200 range (thinkin' Millie here) and still be acceptable.

Although some are a little bigger than 4" lots of choices in the Police Model. And made in Japan. Lotta value there.

If I had to pick one spydie as a life partner with those criteria then Shaman for sure

If you don’t want S30V, and - like me - don’t want made in China, for regular Production knives, your remaining choices are PM2 (s110v), Military (s110v) or Caribbean. Great knives all three of them.

PM2 has an almost 3.5" blade but only around 3" of it is sharp, you can pretty much pick your favorite steel. I also thought of the Amalgam and Canis for you but I think they're both S30V. There is also the Gayle Bradley 2 which is M4 but with a hollow grind. Just trying to think of some that I didn't see recommended yet.

You can always thumb through the knife porn and see what would peak your interest, even if one is discontinued, they come up for sale here periodically, like the Southard !

I know, it's hollow ground and tip up carry only, but just to tempt and add some confusion: GB2. This knife is so damn good!

Why not check out Bentobox.com?
They've always got a knife or three that can catch your eye...
