Spydie newbie seeks life partner 😉

I'm not a huge fan of back locks but mostly because I have some minor hand issues. It's much better for me to open by thumb-flicking as opposed to riding a hole or stud all the way out. Some models like the Rockjumper and my Wharncliffe Dragonfly can be tuned to flick well without introducing a bunch of blade play. On my Endela and Native 5 LW, that doesn't seem to be the case.

I like tip-down when carrying at the outer edge of a back pocket. I may try an S110V Military if they are in stock closer to Christmas.

I have carpal tunnel, but can flick my Native Chiefs and endelas, thumb or middle finger. Just have to position the hand correctly for proper leverage!

It's not easy though... Took me a while to get the technique down.

Thanks. I've got carpal tunnel plus a little arthritis. Technique matters but I also have to count the learning curve. Using more back locks for EDC lately definitely makes me appreciate my more idiot-proof flipper and thumb stud knives. The Rockjumper has become my favorite back lock in part because it's been easier on my hand.

These two are still pretty new. I just got the DLT Exclusive Endela a few days ago with the proceeds from selling my Mini RSK. I got the Native 5 a month or two ago but I've been on the road a lot. They were both a lot stiffer out of the box than my Dragonfly or Rockjumper. It was pretty easy to find a sweet spot for pivot tension on the Rockjumper but I haven't been so lucky with these. I'll hopefully get a chance to disassemble for a full clean and lube soon.

I always figure that I'll remember the knife for a lot longer than I'll remember the shipping costs...😁

I know, it's hollow ground and tip up carry only, but just to tempt and add some confusion: GB2. This knife is so damn good!

maaaaaaaaan.....

why oh why did I click on this thread..... my bank account is going to KILL ME.

$150 is too limiting. Need to up the budget to $200ish and then you'll have some decent choices.

Cool. Is there a premier vendor for the drill & tap procedure and, if so, approximate cost?

Current fave options are Shaman for ergo's of radiused scale edges and Amalgam for checking all the boxes. If I choose to go long, the Millie's & Police models join the fray.

To widen the field, per suggestions, lockbacks & knives in the $200 range will be considered.

Thanks all!

Tip down on a Manix would likely obstruct access to the lock release, and would sit very close to the index. That's probably why it's not an option from the factory.

Good point. I would look closely at a tenacious in s35 steel, a wee tad under 3.5" but it's all edge.

I'm looking for a new EDC, but not sure which model will fill the bill.

I'm on the hunt for a studless 3.5"-4" non-lockback folder, so Spydie Hole is on the duty roster! Linerlock is fine. Other lock options? Love the Native Chief, but the back lock precludes it from consideration. I prefer above average steel, but not a super expensive knife (think $150'ish or so for price).

Current EDC is BM Axis lock Volli in S30V. But it is tip up only & has thumb studs that occasionally Emerson themselves on edge of pocket when I ain't expecting it. Only bit of Sal's wares I have is a Manix 2 that would end the search right now if it would go tip down.

Many TIA for any Spydie Wisdom you can offer.
Military and Paramilitary II are the obvious candidates. I have and carry both, but I also carry Manix 2 sometimes. These models have pushed almost every other folder out of my collection.

Got a HAP40 Endura from the Folders FS forum that meets the blade size & clip location criteria, even though I initially rejected lockbacks. I'm gonna blame it on my undiagnosed case of ADD/HyperImpulsivity/OldFartSyndrome. So I will start with the Endura and see if I like the FRN handles and how deep the Spyderco rabbit hole gets from there. Those Shamans in brown micarta still trigger an itch. 😉

Many thanks for all the input & candidate offerings. Much appreciated!!
