Spydie pakal

edit-my mistake, pics gone, register at tpi to see 'em. Didn't see Snarc's request for them not to be linked, since it was in a post a page before the pics themselves.

I'm not trying to start an argument here, I just don't understand this.

Given the interest and discussion about this knife that have on this forum, especially with over 25 pages in the Spyderco section of the Manufacturers Forum, I'm surprised that now we're being asked to go to another website to see the pictures.

Why is it a problem to show the pictures here?

Jim

Well, maybe you can understand this. The very conception of this knife, the source of it's inspiration comes from Southnarc. Southnarc's forum is TPI. The design of this knife was worked out between Sal Glesser, Trace Rinaldi and Southnarc. It's a TPI project. Not a Bladeforums project. A boatload of the members that expressed an interest in the Spyderco Pikal knife are members of TPI.
Do you understand now?

Well said.

Yes, I can understand that.

I didn’t mean to challenge anyone’s ownership of rights to the pictures. All I wanted was a simple explanation.

darn, I just saw the post by Snarc on tpi, was a page b4 the pics, they're coming down. Sorry bout that.

Thanx guys,

appreciate the respect for Snarc, Trace & Shannon. Shows a lot of "class".

Wow good work. Cut off your first and last sentence and you have a good explanation without being an ass. I love the common courtesy that some people show.

It actually took more effort to be rude. I applaud you sir.

As did it you.

If one reads the posts on that thread at TPI, rather than jumping immediately to the pictures, it is clear that they are not to be taken off that forum. Hardheart realized this and removed the pictures, showing a good deal of courtesy. Rather than you yourself continuing the discourtesy, how about contributing something worthwhile to this thread?

Blade Man, you've got class. And I mean that sincerely.

Thank you.

And now let's get back to the discussion at hand...what's everyone think of the Pikal? I wasn't too thrilled with it initially, it looked kind of ugly, but the more I looked at it, the more it grew on me...very different, but very, very good for what it's designed for. Should do well for utility as well, I like the almost wharncliffe blade for that.

The "Pickle", is a purpose design. Essentially a collaboration between Shivworks (SouthNarc, Trace & Shannon) and Spyderco.

The designed is based on the Fixed blade Shivworks "Disciple". Refined over a long time (sorry  ).

It all began with a post on a Spyderco forum requesting one. Many models were made and changed. A lock had to be fit into a very small place. Questions of shape, size, features, liners, waves, weight, etc. were all discussed.

It is a tribute to Snarc's & Trace's dedication to the concept and the design that made it happen.

S30V will be used on the live model. The ball bearing lock has been evolved to fit into the model. It is strong, smooth and reliable. It will be made in Spyderco's Golden factory.

It is an unusual design, but we've done odd things in the past.

We appreicate the attention, support and patience the projcet has received.

Thanks Sal! Its great to see this coming to fruition. Cant wait to see them ready to go, and thanks for putting up with us/me during the design phase.;)
This tool wont win no art knife beauty contests or anything, but it will MOST definitely perform the tasks its designed for without a doubt.
Again thanks for taking the bull by the horns on a very unorthodox concept on knife work as applied to self-defense.

Looks incredibly well-designed, given its narrow purpose-driven design. If it handles as well as it looks like it will, it will be the definitive reverse-grip edge-in folder.

I'm glad Spyderco is finally adjusting the ball bearing lock into what looks like a comfortable one handed closing folder.

Hi Robb,

Development and refinement take time. The Ball bearing lock is only a couple of years old. ;)

I'm super happy that this project finally came about... THANKS to those who were involved.

Beauty is in the eyes of the user
As others have noted, as a dedicated pakal knife, it will be beautiful knife because it is an extremely effective and functional design for the purpose.

I have seen mention of a trainer at the TPI website. Will this be released concurrent with the live model ? That would be wonderful, if true.

Last I heard from SouthNarc, the live blade and trainer will be available in a set together. Don't know if this is still the plan, though.
