Spydie that won't scare sheeple.

After bringing my Wegner to work and getting various reactions, I am thinking about a more discrete knife with non-threatening visage. Also I am looking for something a fair bit lighter than the Wegner, with smooth sides that won't wear on pocket edges.

The Meerkat is small and inobtrusive with its black scales, but I wonder if the shape of the grip will make people flinch. I like the grip and I like the skeletonized pocket clip.

The Mouse is nice, but I wonder if the all-stainless look isn't a bit too much to be discrete. I always seemed to notice the stainless gleam off my Wegner and I wondered if others did too.

The Lum Chinese seems like it was designed for a Tuxedo, but will sheeple think the same? I like the look of the blue one, as green might be construed as 'military'. I also like the size of it, but is it too big for most sheeple?

I like the Ayoob, but I think it looks too wicked for work.:D

What do you think? I have narrowed it down to the Meerkat, the Mouse and the Lum Chinese.

Thanks in advance,
Phil

Just an add-on:

Has anyone found a spydie that fascinates ordinary people?

Fascination is sooo much better than bile: I would rather have someone say, "Wow, that is truly beautiful." or, "Is that ever NEAT!" than say "OH! What are you planning to do with THAT!?".

Thanks again,

Phil

I'd have to say my dyad jr. Three ppl I was hanging out with called it cute when I lent it to them to cut something. From experience, my lum folder still got ppl to be a little antsy.

See? What'd I tell you? Take one nasty, slender, throat-cutting swept blade, and an evil, serrated blade that looks like a scaaaary crocodile, and put them together on a single knife. Instant cute.

I maintain that the perfect "sheeple friendly" functional Spyderco would be a three-inch Kiwi with a pair of scissors built in :D

I found that people would get spooked sometimes by the Lum Chinese, even though I'd thought that it would be sheeple friendly.

The Mouse is the most sheeple friendly clipit I ever had. Women will try to steal it from you.

How about the PE green Salsa? That one looks pretty friendly.:).

How about the Navigator? Not as classy as the Mouse, perhaps, but I believe it has the same cutting power, is sheeple friendly - in my experience anyway - and costs less. Though now discontinued, it can still be found at good prices in a lot of places.

That's why I wish Spyderco would bring back the "Q" but with a bit more robustness to the construction.

Those were a cool series of knives; although they feel a bit fragile.

However, definitely a head turner, and very non-threatening due to it's small blade size and novelty look.

Unfortunately, I don't want to use my MIB one and unwilling to pay the inflated priced ones on EBAY. :grumpy:

The most sheeple friendly knives made by Spyderco are:
1. Civilian
2. Gunting
3. Military
4. Vaquero Grande
5. ...

(dialex is interrupted from typing by two doctors that grab him back in his cell...)

How about the Dragonfly? My girlfriend carries that regularly and it doesn't seem to gain as much negative attention as her Delica.

I know it's strange that people get freaked out by the Lum chinese folder.

In my experience sheeple get scared by anything with an edge

Stay away from serrations and/or balck blades they are juist TOOO evil :D

A few years ago I lost a carbon fibre handled dragonfly when it was taken off me at Gatwick airport ans "what a suprise" did not come out at the other end in Cyprus.

The coment form the nubm nuts x ray operator was someting along the lines on "its one of those knives with an evil hole" strange but true I am afraid.

1. Cricket. The comments I got ranged from "cute" to "interesting". Some seem to think that the roundish shape is not very knife-like.

2. SS Dragonfly. Comments on this one were "pretty" and "classy." But since it is possible to do a stabbing motion with Dragonfly, most still react better to a Cricket...

3. Spydercard. This one just got one "neat" comment, and that was it. No freaking out at all.

Just my CDN$0.02... :D

P.S. On the other hand, some people find even a Shabaria or a Civvie exotic, while others yell "*knife!*" and dive into the nearest trench between desks...

Even my hoplophobic wife likes the Cricket. She'd like it even more in a blue or orange.

>"Or the cricket?? Those can't be too bad in the eye's of sheeple right?"

===========================

Good lord!

Listen, I don't like the sheeple any more than the next guy around here, but I'd never advocate sticking a knife in their eyes!! ;)

Seriously though, think about a plain-edge Delica or maybe Navigator. If you're worried about the sheeple factor, best to stick with plain edge instead of serrations, IMHO.

I guess I wasted my time and money on trying to get a sheeple friendly knife. I guess its time to throw away my lum folder.
:)

I almost forgot about the spydie card. My friends liked it. In fact one of them asked for it for christmas last year.

I gues the ladybug2 with sheepfoot blade is pc right? I would hate to be limited to just a ladybug though.

You may want to also consider the Ti Salsa. Very smooth sides, PE, same price range as the chinese lum and the wire clip make it virtually invisible in an office environment. Mine's been an EDC for 6+ months now and not one person at work has asked what's clipped on my pocket.

Be Excellent to each other.

Plain edge Navigator.29 bucks at Smokey Mountain.

Colored handle, small in size, vg10 and shape make it a hell of a cutter. My Meercat and co-pilot don't see much use anymore.
