Spydie that won't scare sheeple.

The Lum Chinese has a great blade/handle ratio- nobody expects that much blade to fold out of such a slim handle. Just put mine back into the carry rotation- I'm really impressed w/ it every time I pick it up. BTW- the new G. Sakai's are nice: http://www.gsakai.co.jp/shop_gsakai1.php I have a Clutch Lock (pic #5) & it's never caused a raised eyebrow.

It's very unfortunate, but some people do see the Lum Chinese as a large threatening knife (it's precisely these people I don't show my G-10 Civilian to  ).

I work in a very (VERY !!!) restrictive office, and I generally go with a PE FRN Cricket, but even then I carry it loose in my pocket. That said, even when I do bring it out and start slicing (been doing that a lot lately as we're moving office) no one bats an eye. The Cricket is so unusial and non-threatning.

If I'm out on site I will sometimes go with a PE Calypso Jnr Lwt. Black handle, black clip and rides very low, all but invisible against my black work trousers. The blade shape is also a lot less threatening than that of the Delica or Endura.

If your wallet will stretch to it, try a Kiwi. A very competent cutter, and not only is it very non-threatening to sheeple, it is so nice that sheeple and other non-knife persons will want one themselves :D

(Gasp!), dialex, that's rather "Cold" of you to talk about the Vaquero Grande at the "bug" forum! ;)

You forgot the stainless Police. There's a nice, quiet gentleman's folder!

I have found that whatever I carry I am happy with and don't really care what others think. I carry a stainless Spyderco Police quite often and it's just about as scary looking as a folding knife is going to get. If you carry based on what others think then your bending to them. Carry what you like as long as it's legal for you where your at and smile when the sheeple look at you like your crazy for having a knife like that because it's your God given freedom of American expression to be crazy!

dialex is right-on. My Civilian never frightens the sheeple - because it stays clipped in my jacket pocket while I pull out my Kiwi to do small cutting jobs around the Spydie - challenged. (The Kiwi performs the same service just as effectively when I'm carrying my Cuda Maxx as well)

People have been made uneasy by my spydercard. The words of a former high school classmate were "that's a big knife" when I was showing it to another friend. Probably a good thing she didn't see me when I showed the BM-710 :D

My cricket never seems to affect people though. The shape definately isn't something people associate with a knife. The blade looks like a caraciture of a penguin for one and doesn't have a traditional point for another.

Just keep hoping for the Trakker. My Proto Gets alot of "Gee thats cute" remarks.:D

I get a kick sometimes spooking ppl with my knives though. It is fun to see there reaction when I non-chalantly pull out my military to cut something, switch to my ss police in se and the reach for my lum chinese to finish a cutting task. This is of course only when I am working. Since I work at a retail knife store, I can get away with it. If I did that at my University, I'd have the police storming the building five minutes later.

Checked out the Dragonfly and the Almite Navigator today. I like the way the Dragonfly feels when I pinch in twixt thumb and forefinger. The Navigator's choil wasn't as pronounced and I felt my index finger creeping forward on the blade.

I think I will get a SS Dragonfly. It's classy, cute and controllable. I will probably just take the clip off and let it ride in my pocket.

Thanks to everyone for your help.

PS. Also handled the SS Native II PE. Wow... Not cute and cuddly, but boy does it handle! The choils in the grip make the stainless handle a non-issue. I want one...

The Dragonfly is one nice knife. Still, I think that you should consider the Mouse before you buy. The Mouse isn't all stainless, it is almite coated aluminum which creates a bright, beadblast effect. I also like the blade geometry and steel better on the Mouse than the Dragonfly. If you are a fan of the Wegner, I think that the Mouse would be the next logical step. Plus, Blade-tech has them on sale for 65 bucks.

I have already ordered the dragonfly, but maybe I'll get a mouse down the road a bit. They do look beautiful.

Variety is the spice of life!

I just about bought a Lum Chin-ese, but the shape of it felt weird in my hand so I wound up getting a Chin-ook instead. :D

Well, I say get the Dragonfly PE, in stainless or FRN, and you're doing just that. So there.

NGK, like you, I don't care what others think either, but keeping in the spirit of the thread:
I just found a plain edge blue Delica!
Still have several Ladybugs.
'Fascination' factor: 'Q', SpyderCard, Khalsa

WTF! Where's my Chinook? Or my Harpy? Hell, people have been alarmed at my original Mariner. Thankfully, they didn't see the Ruger Bisley tucked behind my hip!

  :p

The Portagee

If you want my two cents, the cricket (even with SE;)) doesn't seem to "offend"( even cops;)) Here in South Florida ya' gotta carry your blade in the open ( or in sheath ) otherwise, you need a "concealed weapons permit":( Go figure. I keep my SE cricket clipped to the outside of my pocket and nobody seems to give a "fig";) Best damn Spydie, IMO.

AET (ATE on the "home" forum ;))

Oh yeah, what Homer Simpson is quoted as sayin' a few post(s) back;)

Yes: the carbon fiber Dragonfly. Everybody says "oooooohh!!" (even with serrations).

Sheeple are afraid of their own shadow, the boogyman, and at times the easter bunny. Carry what makes you happy, not the sheeple.

Besides if the screaming bothers you just whip out your Glock, wave it around your head and tell them to shut the hell up. :p

Some of us work in environments where we could be fired for carrying a weapon (or in the case of school, expelled). And even if it is technically legal to carry, many time the term 'weapon' is up to interpretation, by the frightened. Carrying a knife that makes sheeple uncomfortable could result in your knife being outlawed explictly.

That said, I always carry a SS Dragonfly PE, in addition to my bigger blades. This way, I always have a knife that I can use in front of others. I've never gotten a negative comment about the 'fly, though I have received some surprised looks. It seems small enough that even when it makes folks uncomfortable, they feel silly commenting on it.
