SpydieChef Question :)

hmmm, it depends on whether and how many people are actually USING these knives. The lockbar will wear out sooner or later it is a fact not an imagination. It is just a matter of time. But as a poster said, the knife may have been thrown into the trash before its lock face is worn out.

I agree to some extent with both POVs . I have a KnifeJoy SpydieChef. The lock up was almost 50%. I was able to tweak it backwards (?”knowing the risk of blade wobble, if overdone ) I think it’s 40%ish now. It never had any lock stick . I wish it had the insert but, I just love it ! I am really enjoying all the metrics of it and I’m getting another.
I do agree with the argument of, any Ti R.I.L w/o insert. My Domino and my 2 Drunkens have it. I called Golden myself ,to ask why they don’t do an insert for SpydieChef . Someone in warranty said, it because it’s a salt series and a carbon insert would rust.
I have to believe that, an insert with high chromium content, would outlast the bare Ti.

How many pocket knives have you worn out in your lifetime? Myself, zero. For sake of argument, let's just say at some point the Spydiechef will wear out to the point of being unsafe or at least really annoying. Honest question; How many years of daily carry use would you have to get out of it for it to be worth the price? Personally, I would like a knife at that price to last at least 20 years or more with light to moderate daily use but even if it only lasts 10, then I had the pleasure of using a great tool daily for the price of $25 a year. And I would have a story to tell, right? So, sounds like a bargain to me as long as it's not going to sit in your dresser drawer while you're afraid you'll wear it out and wishing you never bought it. Life is short. Live, learn, love & love some more!

Never had any lockstick on my SpydieChef or any other Spyderco Ti knife, except for the Paysan which had severe lockstick which caused me to sell it.

That is why I really like Hinderers. You can use the hell out of them and they still hold up. I guess there are knife users and then collectors. I fall in between and I am purging some of my mid to high end stuff. I guess, why have the blade ,if not to use it?. I did however get a Rubicon that you could almost see the lock bar scuffing down to 100% lock-up . It is a strange hobby.

The SpydieChef is such a cool knife. No lock stick whatsoever. I did buy a Rubicon, second hand, and the lock bar was 60% or more and was sticky I decided to drop it on evilBay. That was a beautiful knife and some of the best CF that I’ve seen in a Spyderco. I have 2 Drunken now and they are awesome.
I will be picking up another SpydieChef soon.

Hinderers are great knives and will last well. I use the heck out of my Spydiechef though. It‘s not going to stand up to prying like a Hinderer might but that’s because it was designed to slice. Hinderer’s don’t slice like a spydiechef. It’s design choice. Use a Spydiechef correctly (don’t abuse it) and it’s going to last a really long time. I‘ve used mine for scraping paint, stripping wires, cutting drywall, etc and it’s doing great. (I do carry the GB2 if I know it will be a extended hard use type day.)

Would you mind sharing some pics of your Spydiechef?

Oh, okay... when you said you use yours for "scraping paint, stripping wires, cutting drywall, etc" I was expecting something like this:
