squaring dies?

Coal Iron sells the foot control kit for their presses.
Yep, I've looked at it and do like the cable feed system. I've also seen a couple of "homemade" foot feeds that worked good. We'll see how it goes and what I come up with. Since I've never even seen a press in person much less used a press in real life it's hard for me to have any real idea how I'll proceed. Of course I do have some ideas (or is that "Ideals"?) based on videos and writing with folks.

I saw that too, and was wondering if I would buy i tor make my own. I'll wager that if you find the press can handle it, you will eventually want a foot pedal as you start to try larger billets. I don't use the foot pedal on the press I have access too because where they placed it on the machine for the owner forces me to balance on one foot while using it. It's a lot different than any of the power hammers I've ever used and I think it's because there's no place to rest your heel or put any weight on the pedal foot during use.

Yep, balancing on one foot isn't something I like to do much of these days. As I've gotten older I find my balance isn't as good as when younger, and I didn't walk 6" beams very high off ground then either.

PACKAGE IS HERE!!!! Now to unpack and see what it's all about :)

Since there are several videos showing unpacking and setup I won't bother with a video for that. BUT - I will try to do a video of actually using the press. AND will show how well (or not) the cart they have works with the press. That's the first order of business is to get cart setup.

OK, here's the press setup on the cart. That cart works MUCH better than I was expecting when I opened the box. It's rated at 1,000 lb but I don't see how. The posts are 1" diameter, while a similar cart I purchased from Sam's has 1-1/2" posts, and the wire of the shelfs are all the same size. It does NEED a decent flat plate bolted to the wire shelf for the press to bolt to.

Remember I was concerned about ability to get press into backyard where the anvil is setup with my work tables? Not a problem - little more hassle to roll press out than is the forge, but not a real problem. Here they are setup with forge heating up.

Here's an old truck axle I had laying around, it's about an inch diameter. This is one press with the drawing die. I think it would have pinched it into had I tried. While it won't do what a 25 ton press does, I think it's going to be ok for what I want.

Sorry, no videos yet - got to get some help to make videos. It takes both hands to run the press. So far I'm doing ok with the hand control rather than foot control. We'll see how it goes as time goes by.

Another mildly related question, does the ram actually travel 3.5 IPS?

BillyO, I'm pretty sure I answered your question a long time ago somewhere, but in case I didn't - yes the ram does seem to actually travel 3.5 IPS. The full stroke is about 6", and counting "1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi" and it's down.
