How do you square the shoulders next to the hand material on a integral?(like Micheal Raders knives)
Thanks
CH...

I don't know how other folks do it, but I use a safe edge square file, good lighting, and a lot of patience standing around the vice and hand squaring the inside shoulder there. I'm sure there are easy enough ways to use or modify a file guide to do this, though.

Heck, I can get 'em dialed in pretty darn close on the edge of the platen most times. Then a little hand filing.

I've though about it a few times, that if I put a little time in I could make an indexable blade holding fixture to fit in the milling vise that would ennable me to cut precision shoulders all the way around on the mill- but I'm often satisfied with the caveman approach, indeed sometimes to my detriment.

Show us a picture of the knife you are working on, and explain what you want it to be like. We can be more helpful then.

I am sure curious why I have spent a ridiculous amount of time doing threads like the one above that IMHO clearly explain ONE POTENTIAL way of doing something, yet none of them are included anywhere in the "stickies."

But there are lots of things in the stickies that are simply a sea of words with no photos or video.

Every week I see several questions here that have answers in the thread I did with Lorien, which has hundreds of photos and around 300,000 views.... But where is the link to that?

Oh, it's in my sig line...

This probably shouldn't frustrate me since I get piles and piles of cash for all the time I've spent putting these things together.

You've got to be the squeaky wheel.

Put your own links in the video sticky, not horn blowing they belong there.

Send Stacy an email with links for the stickies, I'm sure he will put them there

I agree photos and videos make text come alive.

I was sure I had links to some of your threads on the std reply, but now I see not as many as I had thought, must have lost some on the versions conversions.

fixed that v34 , hope the next newb head's don't explode

Hey Nick. Your way is probably much better than mine. I'm probably going to convert to that myself now that I have a surface grinder. Would be nice if the carbide faced file-guide was one large plate with a hole in it. Anyone know if I can use my plasma cutter on a thin carbide sheet without it exploding?

I bet it would water jet.

I don't want to speak out of turn, but I "think" Lin Rhea has a cool little jig for this. I believe it was something like a plate with a hole in it as mentioned above. I think it was in a thread I saw once. I can't remember how the blade was held, but it allowed to file all around the tang so the shoulders were nice and square to mate up with the handle material (I think it was more for a rounded integral and not perfectly parallel to put the file guide on). Perhaps someone who knows him well might be able to see? Guess that's not all that helpful after thinking about it...
