SR-101 Rust Comparison Question

Great idea.
So is it necessary to strip it 1st ? Or can I just sand/media blast the coating off ?

Stripping the actual blade isnt really necessary. The blaster takes it off just fine BUT I always at least strip everything around the handles so I don't have to blast the scales any more than absolutely necessary. On that DT I didn't blast it at all. It is the only SR101 that I've stripped and I was a little bit afraid that blasting might leave a surface that is more rust prone so is did that one all by hand. If I were to do it again I'd blast it to save some hand workand then hit it with the scotch brite pad to finish it up.

I will also add that my first and only time blasting a res handled knife left me with the opinion that no chemical strip is required. That stuff is amazingly resilient. Blast away.
