Quick question here. I'm just getting into using the form and such, and I'm sure its posted several times on here, but is there any easy chemical way to strip the coating off a blade? Thanks!

That Kleen Strip stuff works really well. Though I'm finding it hard to get the coating out of the dimmple and such.

I have used both these products and they both do a good job.

I have used the product pictured in the aerosol can. Worked great for taking the od green coating off my ASH-1! Coating peeled off in a sheet.

I used this to strip the coating off of one of my hellrazors

I soaked the hellrazor for about five minutes and the coating bubbled off clean and easy. When you do use a stripper, do it in a well ventilated area, preferably outside. Wear a good pair of chemical resistant gloves to handle the knife before you wash it. The stripper will cause a chemical burn if you do not wear the proper protection. The grips were not affected by the stripper.

It's really easier than you think. Any of the products mentioned above work great. The best I've used was the Klean-Strip paint stripper. If you leave it on long enough, all you have to do is rinse the coating off because it just washes away. You can't mess it up.

^Great photos! That is a great product. Submerging the whole knife may be overkill but it sure gets the job done. I prefer the aerosol version that foams because of the reduced cleanup. What did you do beyond stripping the coating?

does this work for DC coating ?
:D

No. The Double Cut finish does not have a coating. The coat process is a satin finish that is bead blasted.

Wow! Awesome! Quite the set! I was super leary of removing the blade coating for the first time but like it was said before, it is far easier than you think. I left the ASH-1 that I did fairly dull. Just sanded the layer of oxidization off and left a kind of petina. My knife is a user and I like the way it came out. Pretty rewarding process.

The coating on Busse knives wears off easily with use. Here are some pics of one of my FBMs after some use.

I use the Klean Strip as well....Good stuff. Heres one I stripped, and then convexed and polished by hand.

Don't these chemicals affect the micarta/g10 scales/handles? Or are some stripping products more or less damaging than others?

WOW! I bought the wrong type of stripper!!!

Don't think there will be a next time for this with me but if there is I am looking for a more effective stripper:eek:

I'm wondering this as well, why aren't they affected by these stripping chemicals? I'm sure someone knows. The knives look great guys! Great work! I love the "play-by-play" of the coatings bubbling up off the INFI!

I have not seen any effect on the three that I've stripped. The worst I have heard of is some lightening of the color.

Nver affected the handles of any Busse Ive stripped. Only takes 5-7 minutes in the "bath".....
