Srip blade coating

The Busse grips are not noticeably, functionally affected by the coating stripper. Macroscopically and chemically may be a different story, one that I am not versed in.

I have not seen any effect on the three that I've stripped. The worst I have heard of is some lightening of the color.

Resinguy,

Is my memory correct to think that by occupation you are a Resinguy?

Thanks,

Kevin

I did notice that the handles on my SS were lighter and seemed almost brittle on the outer lawyer after I stripped mine. I think I left the stripper on for 15-20 minutes, which was shorter than the directions requires. I think it would have been enough for just a few minutes.

Yes, a polymer chemist. Our company makes coatings for the inside and outside of food and beverage cans, including the Frost Brew liner inside the cans of Amy's favorite beverage. I am a Senior Chemist in the Global Research group, and we develop the new and improved resins that are the primary component of the coatings. If you have heard anything about the BPA controversy, I have been working almost exclusively on BPA-free coatings for over four years.

Resinguy, that sounds awesome/techincal. Props on the nifty job.

INFI is remarkably rust/stain resistant. Scrub it clean after use. Most folk don't even bother oiling it.

+2 (actually, usually mine don't even get scrubbed clean til days later after use).

When I got my first Satin Infi, It had a couple faint finger prints that were stains. I rubbed off with very little work (paper towel and wd if I remember correctly). I though I would need to keep them oiled, but never have had to. It came to me from the Oregon coast, I live in Eastern Washington, and have put them away wet, and even gone swimming in pools and rivers with both satin GW, and stripped SS and had no rust or staining. I had one time in Seattle, where I had to dive into a pool in my street clothes to rescue a little drowning girl. Changed clothes, and forgot to take the GW out to dry or wipe off. I took it out several hours later and nothing wrong.

If you live in a high humidity and high salt environment, you may have to use something (that is based on some people in these environments making that recommendation).

That makes your feedback very valuable to me. Thanks:)

Am I going to die because of my older Nalgene bottles?

Ok and one more question, which I'm sure is also posted all over but I do not yet have the search feature (soon, soon).

Will stripping the finish off void the warranty?

Thank you!

No, but certain parts of you will shrivel up.

Yes, it will void the warranty on the coating. Other than that, you're good to go.

The Busse warranty is outstanding. I don't think we have ever heard of a case they did not cover. If you modify the knife, you might lose the warranty on the part you modded, but not the rest of the knife. If you were to grind your edge paper thin, you would still have a warranty on the handle scales, for example.
