SRK or S1?

I have neither, so not sure if my opinion helps, but I'd go for fallkniven. Much better steel, looks like a higher grind, endge extends further down towards the handle, giving more usable cutting edge. Plus I'd trust Fallkniven further than I'd trust Cold Steel.

I agree with udtjim. I have several Carbon V SRK's, and others, and love them. I'd take those first in a heartbeat. The S1/A1's that I've handled are too thick and blocky for my liking. If it's a newer SRK in AUS-8A, then I'd opt for a Fallkniven H1. A very, very good knife, that's overlooked often, IMO.

Well, the Army surplus store I went to , had all their stuff on sale. Including all the Fk's. So I bought the S1 . in silver. The A1 seemed to heavy for my liking, and the S1 fell right in the middle between the A1, and F1.

I really like the thin sheath , and the convex grind the blade has. :D

Happy customer.

( Also scored a Fenix E 20 2AA unit )

Merry Christmas you guys !

I am trying to decide between the Cold Steel SRK , or the Fallkniven S1 as a good , general bush knife. The SRK is now AUS 8 , so both are reasonably stainless. They also come with kydex sheaths ( which I like. )

Very similar blades : therefore a tough decision for me. It doesn't matter to me if the blades are black-coated or not. ( The Fallkniven comes in black, but is priced substantially higher from my supplier.)

How do you fellas feel about these knives , and what would be your selection ?

Thanks,

Pete

This is my experience. Have owned the S1 but sold it. Owned SRK's and sold them or gave away.

I liked the S1 but the handle was small for my hand. Quality product but just didn't work for me. The SRK is a rugged, compact knife but not a good slicer - too thick at the edge.

It all comes down to your needs but for me neither was ideal. I know you didn't bring up the idea of other options but I went with Bark River products. Their prices are more comparable to Fallkniven but with more options, styles and a killer warranty.

If I had to choose between your two choices it would be the Fallkniven. The A1 would be my choice.
