SRK vs Becker 5" / 7" utility knife?

what do you guys think for a deployment to iraq? SRK or a becker utility knife in 5 or 7 inches?

For the type of abuse the knife is likely to see I would go with the SRK instead. The Becker is a more agressive cutter but the SRK is certainly no slouch & has a very strong tip design. It is also well balanced for throwing should you have time to spare & want to practice that... I am also a big fan of the 'rubberized' grip - I think it is one of the most significant "recent" developements to what is arguably man's oldest tool

Rumor has it they are the same steel, made by pretty much the same people now though. I'd recomend handling them & then deciding for yourself based upon the one you 'feel' more comfortable with.

Me too :) I think that the SRK Kraton handle offers a much better grip than
the molded GV6H handle scales of the BK7.

But both are great knives and, in my opinion, you can base the buying decision
on your personal preferences.

i was sort of basing the decision on the fact that i already have an srk but i don't like the sheath. for about $40 i can get a nice spec ops sheath or for $50 i can get a becker with a half way decent sheath

I'd get both knives and use the one that speaks to me. They're probably both serviceable, and the main difference may be how you feel about them. I know this isn't an objective analysis of these knives' respective virtues and defects, but that will probably not be what it all comes down to. If it were a Maxam vs. a Becker, then yeah. But this is a decision your gut will probably make.

in place the beginning of january, but i expect a month and a half of training, so i'll leave home middle of november

well with normarks kind offer the choice for me would be the becker for sure. the only thing i don't like about the becker line is the poor sheath design. get the becker and you're good to go. just my opinion, your results may vary, void in canada. and good luck and have a safe tour. ahgar

Another vote for the SRK. The tip design is better for 'abuse and forget.' I guess that will come in handy in the field.

By the way, thanks for serving.

You'll be in our prayers.

I have no experience with the SRK, but I just wanted to chime in about the BKT knives. I have both a BK7 and BK10. Both are rock solid. I feel very comfortable using them both for any chore I might need them for in the field. I'd definitely say the Becker BK7 would be an excellent choice for a field knife.
