Which would be the better all around camp knife/hunting knife? Any other suggestions in this price range? Do you own one? Do you want to sell ot trade it?

I have no experience with either, but i have a SOG Gov't that has been a loyal camp friend for several years. Holds an edge, chops ok for the size, and yes, pounds tent stakes well.

Afee,
I really like the looks of the SOG. The steel is listed as 440A. Does that hold an edge well? Also there was A SOG Government agent listed in carbon steel. Any experience with that one? Anyone else have experience with the government?

I have the Gov..t too, one of the first knives I got, took a lot of abuse, got a bit rough looking and I sort of lost interest in it, then one day I got it polished to a high shine and now I love it again, very good and strong production knife, hope this helps!!!

I'm actually not sure if mine is 440A or not, its several years old and is unkarked. Its not the most modern or newest flashy steel, but it holds an edge and resharpens with ease when needed. I have no experience with the carbon stel one (although, if you look around, stainless steels are actually just stain resistand reaaly good carbons. ATS and 440v are examples). Back to the Gov't- you can pick one up for about $80 at 1SKS with their code-3 thing, and for a similar price other places. For the money it is a solid knife that preforms well, takes abuse in stride, and needs almost no maintnence. The grip, though seemingly basic, fits my hand in a varity of grips much better then some of the more recent stylized modles.

From my impressions of the BM, its more designed for light utlity and personal defense (ie, a weapon that serves as a tool). That might get flamed to hell, but thats the impression i have gotten. i also have an inherent distrust of Cold Steel, but that may be just a biased. I actually considered the SRK when I purchased my SOG, and decided I liked the fit and function of the SOG better for my purposes. Good balance, good fit, and great construction. Its a bomber camp and utility knife for those of us that like a blade of its size.

I have a Nimravus and like it very much. Like the previous poster I agree it seems to be a weapon which can be pressed into service as a tool. The SRK is also a fine knife. Friends who own them swear by them. I have yet to purchase one (inclination and money haven't yet met). The only advantage the SRK might have is in the handle. I believe the CS to have a superior handle design for those cold, slippery wet nights when survival situations seem to happen. Still I like the BM balance and carry it as a backup to my Randall 18.
