Is there any reason NOT to install a SS floor in my gas forge I am building? I have access to SS of all sizes and was thinking of installing a 3" wide x .187 thick Pc of T304SS in the floor to help protect it from wear and tear? Hoping to do some forge welding in the future as well. Thanks! DonO

It won't be there for long at welding temps. It will slowly burn up...and the flux will probably eat the heck out of it.

Put a floor of Mizzou or other 3000F refractory in the forge, and put a good layer of bubble alumina on that.
If the forge will allow it, a simple 1" layer of clay kitty litter works fine, too.
