Stabbing "Tests"

People are so critical of the dude. I love and appreciate what he does. For those of you who think it's ridiculous, let's see your videos of tests.

i think this is a legit test, i mean if you get lost in the wilderness and have a pocket knife and some tape, there is a good chance you will end up making a spear.

Minor point: I think I would use the knife to shape a spear point onto the stick.

Major point: who goes hiking with a roll of duct tape (that also doesn't carry other survival stuff)?

He should have just used slaves like they did in the old days.
Even the Bible says that's OK. Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can someone clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

nutnfancy has good knife reviews but this was kinda silly.. he should have worn a heavy duty glove and stabbed different materials with it, preferably a large slab of pork or beef.

I think that's still very dangerous. a better way to perform this test is to only wrap the duct-tape around one of the handle slabs, leaving the one with the liner completely untouched. this would only work with an open design though.

That test doesn't show anything.

Just throwing a knife into a piece of wood on the ground would stress it more than what he did. ;)

Why is this comment even here? :thumbdn:

I don't have a problem with his test. I believe, like others, that there should be different variables to make the test more realistic. I don't begrudge the guy for trying though. I'm glad there's someone out there that's doing decent reviews.

You couldn't afford us. Hell, we can't afford us. ;)

Because it's ridiculous... just like the test. Sorry if the sarchasm got past you.

(Note:Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and
the reader who doesn't get it.)

Sarcasm works with people who know each other. Sarcasm gets lost in a discussion other people are taking seriously. Sarcasm can border on trolling when it's intended to show everyone else how smart you are and they ain't.

Play nice. The chasm lies mostly between what you thought and we saw.

Its an okay test. Nothing that special. Id rather see stabbing into wood

Maybe if skin and muscle were as hard as wood. He stated several times that he was trying to make it a realistic-as-possible test for a defense situation (i.e. stabbing at an attacker, not a tree.) As Mr. Miyagi once stated, "Don't know; never been attack by tree."

Really, all the points in which you'd ideally hit someone with the tip of a knife are hidden behind bones. The knife isn't going to magically slip past the sterum and ribs. And it wouldn't be unlikely to hit the upper arm bone or shoulder area if the person is trying to protect themself. And what if you want to, or just happen to, hit the skull?
All this video prooves to me is that a Rat-1's lock, when the knife is heavily tapped to a broom pole, would probably hold up if you stabbed it straight into something soft.

I like to think I'm fairly open-minded when it comes to people doing pretty much whatever with their knives; never know what you might learn. However when you see something called a stabbing "protocol" and it turns out to be duct taping a folder to a broom handle ... well, it did give me a good chuckle. :)

It would be nice to have some 1x hidden in the cardboard somewhere or some slashing motions added but really think about it. Taping the knife to a pole adds extra momentum to the thrust, two handed power from the user, and considerably extra levering from the turning bag and torque from the pole.

Totally legitimate test.
