Hey guys, after many many hours at the bandsaw and many more hours drying this out, i am happy to finally be able to sell stabilized bias cut black palm again!
Black palm is an interesting material. When it has a high denisty of black fibers, it is among the most dense wood on earth, but it can be lighter than poplar when there are very few fibers. I use only the highest grades of palm cut at an angle to produce an incredibly attractive face.
If you have used palm before and hated it, its probably because you used in-stabilized, my blocks are stabilized by K&G. The advantage of stabilizing palm is that the darker fibers become cemented in the lighter matrix and no longer tear out and ruins the finish.
These are comments from @Stacy E. Apelt - Bladesmith
"Black Palm, especially the bias cut type, will sell a knife in a heartbeat.
Years back, Herb Derr would buy every block of bias cut Stabilized Black Palm I took to the show off my table before the show opened. Why??? - because it sells!"
