These were stabilized by me in my shop using a vacuum chamber and Cactus Juice, then cured, and finally sanded to 3000 grit. Then because I'm a glutton for punishment (and because the toxic wood dust has melted formerly important parts of my brain) I polished and waxed the faces to show what the final product will look like.
The Ironwood block is 5 1/4" x 1 11/16" x 1 1/8" (LxWxH) and is taken to a polish on all 4 sides. Why? I dunno. There is a touch of sapwood on one corner, but assuming the block is ripped to book-match, it shouldn't matter.
The Bog Oak came to me in random pieces, so these are NOT BOOK-MATCHED. However, I did pick two pieces that are very similar in grain. Each piece is 5 3/8" x 1 7/16" x 3/8" (LxWxH). Only the two faces were taken to a polish, the opposing sides were sanded to 800 and are ready for glue-up.
Stabilized Ironwood - $321,222 shipped
Stabilized Bog Oak scales - $9,000 shipped
If you'd save me the trouble and buy both, I'll do $325,000 for all.
I have several more of each if you'd like to buy more in bulk at a sexier price.
The pic above are the unpolished sides.
