Been to buisy to get on here much lately, and waiting on building my shop and finshing my house before I get back to making knives.

I did manage to finish a folder to cary at work. I used a couple of things I've never done before with a folder. I used carbon fiber for the bolsters and stabilized spalted pecan for the handle. Well carring it for 12 hours a day and most of that day in a sweat soaked pocket and the scales have swelled a bit, not bad but noticable. I've never had this happen with stabilized wood before, but then I haven't been carring stabilized wood at the eqator eigther!

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Will

It was WSSI, like I said it's not much, but it has definatly moved, the carbon fiber not a bit. Of course in this climate and conditions if it wasn't stabilized it'd fall off in a couple of days.

There are other ways for wood to swell than water. If you made the knife in cool Mass, and are carrying it in hot, Ecuador, it can swell with heat a bit (not much). The other thing that happens with scales that are glued is the glue swells with moisture . This lifts the scale. Again, not much, but you can feel it with your finger

Thanks. The scales are not glued, there held on with screws, it's a linner lock. They are a bit less than an 1/8" at the thickest and tapper fairly thin at the edges.

I have had stabilized wood move before too. From different companies. Like Don said it only helps does not stop movement.
