Stabilizing depth

I'm mainly interested in buckeye, redwood, amboyna, and thuya burls specifically but still interested in most woods in general.

If a block, say 3" x 4" by 6", is sent to a reputable wood stabilizing company, how deep will the wood be stabilized? I know it'll vary with the wood's density and oil content, the pressure of the vacuum, and the stabilizing solution, so I'll leave out the wood not normally recommended for stabilization like desert ironwood and talk about any good stabilizing company.

Is there a generalized maximum width to ensure the block is stabilized throughout?

It does but the size you listed will penetrate all the way through. You can call the folks at K & G and they will let you know the maximum thickness and size blocks they will do by wood type.

Also I like to cut my stuff into slightly oversize knife blocks so I am not paying to stabilize a bunch of wood I'm not gonna use. You pay by the pound.
