I am no expert, but I will add my comments.

I have been researching this topic the past week or so. Below is some interesting links. Personally I think the 'secrete' formula will not be a secrete as there is a lot of research and push in wood impregnation right now in the flooring industry. Just google for patents and you will be swamped with reading all night (I know). Interesting enough, that the largest chemical companies are willing to speak with me as I have been in contact with a process engineer in Japan, whom is in development of a simpler process for manufacturing. However, their expertise is in chemical formulation not process as the chemicals are available from a manufacturing prospective, but the finished off-the-shelf product is not.

You will also discover many universities are getting grants to do research on this topic. This may lead into a great contact.

An interesting book:

Museums and art preservation specialists are using Acryloid B-72 (Paraloid B-72) for wood and bone preservation (see link below).

The auto industry is using Resinol 90C to fill voids in metals in their manufacturing and it works with wood.
