Has anyone out there got an easy way to stabilize their own wood? There's alot of commercial material available but I want to do it myself...

Vacuum chamber, pump and Nelsonite is the safest and easiest way. Some of the guys have built their own from Harbor Freight supplied goods (except Nelsonite which can be ordered from some of the various knife supply companies). It's a few day long process for proper stabilization. For $12 a pound, you can have WSSI stabilize it for you though.

Just so you know, the home-based stabilizing isn't going to penetrate the wood in the same way professional stabilization will. The vacuum used in pro shops is enough force to get the polymers into the cellular structure of the wood, not just into the voids.

Thanks Everyone....It was just a thought. I still might do some of my own micarta. I hope to show some off here shortly....
