Stablized wood 'hawk handle?

I've been considering some alternatives to the conventional wood handles we install in our 'hawks. First, I've thought about Micarta, G10, etc., then came the idea of stablized wood. It could give a very traditional look, fancy (think Curly or Tiger Maple) graining & the durability of fiber/resin synthetics. Anyone tried it? Any observations?

micarta would be awesome but i dont think it has the shock resistance. i cant see why stabilized wood wouldnt work. yes, i think it would be heavier but it could be a very cool thing to try.
