I just loooove stacked leather handle knives. I came across this one at a flea market (it's that time of the year again!) this morning for $5. It's marked "premier lifetime" and on the opposite side is marked "H20 sheffield england". The leather washers were rough, but not really dented or scratched up, just swollen unevenly. The blade had been sharpened on a grinder and was pretty screwed up, luckily it was saber ground and I had plenty to work with. I like a flat grind for a working knife anyway, so flat gridning this blade would remove all the nasties and make for a thin cutting edge. I'll let the pictures tell the rest of the story, she's fit for the field now. (that is a reflection of the texture on my light box on the blade, just so ya know :))

The crazy guy with the grinder messed the tang up and knocked the grindlines all out of whack so I had to true those up as best I could.

I've got a few more leather handled knives I'll post if ya'll want to see them. Let's see your leather handled knives!

Lets see more by all means!!!

Just looking at those knives brings back a ton of memories from my childhood. Those were the "standard" sheath knife that everyone carried for when their pocket knives were not quite enough blade.

Good job on the refinishing M-M!

Someone should give you a medal for rescuing all these knives MM! Great one! Leather is wonderful stuff.
Here's my leather handled knife, I think my only one. I don't really collect fixed blades, but a friend was selling it, and was the only owner, so I took it home.

To add... those rehandle projects aren't mine.

The first is by lizzardbone.

The second is by aliloff.

Here's a little number I picked up not too long ago. 99 Marbles Sport, Loveless design. A real slicer.

I was pretty amazed at how good the grip is on the Camillus Marine knife. Stacked leather. Very grippy.

The Uruguayen knife that I't thinking of shaping the handle to fit me just right.

I used to have a little Boker bird and trout type that I got as part of 4 knives I bought at a yard sale for $1 years ago. I blued the blade and it was a fine little knife. Unfortunately, I let it a few years back at my own yard sale for much too little money. Not for 25 cents mind you, but still too cheap. I still wish I had it.

Nice blades on here. I think I've told Charlie before, if you're only going to have one fixed blade, having a Randall ain't a bad choice at all!

The only one I've got is a standard Air Force survival knife. Haven't even got a picture -- it lives under the seat in my pickup.

It's what I do :D

I have read that regrinding a blade is tricky with power tools, that if the blade gets too hot it will destroy the temper. I have tried to regrind a couple by hand and spent mucho elbow grease to finish. do you use grinders and belt sanders?

Amos,
I have a Western like this one, can you tell me anything about the vintage of the knife and the steel used?

Deltablade,

It's been a while since I posted asking more about it. Here is a link from that question. Fun reading just for its own sake.

This one seems to be a 440 (A or C) and before 1977. In the linked thread, El Lobo noted that the lettering system started then, A=77, B=78, etc. It is a modern version of the old Seabee knife.

Hope that helps.

Sorry for taking so long, here are the rest of mine.
Top to bottom:

Kinfolks (one of my fav. brands)33041/2 with a refurbished handle by me

Kinfolks no model, used to be a skinner type blade, I reprofiled it to a drop point and thinned the fat handle down to better fit my hand.

Western L28 that still need restoration ( I have already started on the handle as you can see in the pic)

P.S, Nice blackjack TLC!
