Howdy folks. Here's the latest one from my shop, another knife with a lot of "firsts." This knife is my first takedown, my first turned finial, first fluted guard, and first contoured butt cap. The blade is random carbon steel Damascus that I purchased off the Knifedogs classifieds about four years ago. The furniture is all 416 stainless. The handle is Sambar stag. Overall length is 11 inches. This one will be on my table at the Lone Star show April 12-13.

Why is it I can put a knife together, but can't remember which way to turn the phone for a video? :)

Thanks for looking. Critical feedback welcome.

Jason,

Nice work with all of those firsts!

I find both the guard and spacers to be a bit thick, and the guard too large for this knife.. I'd also like to see the fluting extend closer to the edges so there isn't so much unfluted material left. I think a little contrast in materials between the spacers and the guard (maybe blackg10) would enhance the look as well.

Still a very handsome knife. Congrats on your accomplishments.

Very nice. I wish more makers who do takedowns would include a picture like the last one so we can see the pieces and parts. Good job

Great job Jason.
Great to see you moving on and up and trying out new stuff. Handsome bitta stag and tidy blade. Keep up the good work :).

Very nice!

I would say you took it to the next level with all the firsts.

Home run, buddy.
A lot of challenges to overcome. Not an easy task.
Chalk it up and move on to a better one.
The takedown method opens doors to a world of opportunities.

I love random damascus. I'm not too fond of the ordered patterns. Also like the stag a lot, gives the knife a "i can pass this down to my son" feel. I like takedowns from a maintenance standpoint, especially on users made from damascus.
Mr Fry, this piece looks lovingly done. I can see the sweat and hours in it.
If I were to buy, the first thing that stands out to me is the lack of the makers mark? Also, agree with Bladeplay74 about a contrasting spacer. Third, combined with the stag and damascus, the face of the butt plate needs a little something. An etch? Maker's mark? I don't doubt that pics do not give a real sense of the fit and finish of this amazing piece. My opinion on further embellishments are simply something I would look for if I was to buy it.
Your skills are far beyond mine. Maybe someday you can look at one of my pieces and laugh a little :)
