I am making a LARGE bowie (17+" OAL) with a crazy piece of popcorn stag (pictured below)
Blade is about 11" to the guard made of 1/4" O1.
I am trying to decide if I want:
I amy have a bit of trouble with a 416 buttcap as the stag may be wider than my 416 stock, so have been heavily going towards the all-damascus fittings.
My concern is if you guys think itll look odd to have a 100-+ grit hand rubbed O1 blade, then all damascus fittings on the guard and handle, or if those fittings will really make the blade "pop." I know how to finish damascus so it doesnt have that dull look, much like this blade, which is what I was envisioning with a deep etch:
Buttcap similar to this (without the integral lanyard):

- 416 SS guard/ferrule/buttcap
- Damascus guard/ferrule/buttcap
- Damascus guard/416 ferrule/damascus buttcap
- Some combination of the above
