I think my next purchase is gonna be a stag Congress who makes a good one ? Been looking around and having a hard time deciding got a little more than $60.00 to spend . Thanks

I really like my henckels as a user. The stag handles didn't match really well, however its tight and has great snap on blade opening and closing. I use mine for whittling mostly.

I´ve seen several stag congresses made by Robert Klaas and, as iahunter3 already told, made by Henckels. Both knives are made in Solingen, Germany.

I don´t know if the R. Klaas is available in the US, but I´ve handled one once and it felt great in hand.

Thats a nice one i always forget about Henckels i dont see the model anywere . Il keep looking

I really like that bulldog! If you like the henckels its a nice knife. Mine has great fit and finish, walk and talk, stag and carbon steel blades. I think they used 1075?? I don't remember for sure. The ONLY downside to the henckels if you like the design is the glued shield and sloppy sharpening. Mine came with the shield already off. Aside from that, I can't find a single thing to gripe about. As for general Henckels use, I have use my whittler from the same class of knives and it has never let me down or come loose in any way and it has seen years of hard whittling.

Normally I will not get stag unless I can see it & handle it. My GEC Half-Congress looked so nice online I broke my rule & ordered it.

The nicest stag congress knives I've seen were all Solingen made, Klaas, Boker, older Hen & Rooster. The prices seem to be all over the range too, with the highest being the H&R from before the early 80's.

Legion 12 just a heads up the J. A. Henckels are made by Boker. I have a Boker Stockman carbon steel that is excellent & a J. A. Henckels congress in stainless that's pretty decent, I have a preference for carbon. At some point I plan on picking up a Boker carvers congress I like the blade selection and the price is around $50 +-, I have also found Bokers prices to be all over the place depending on the vendor, it's worth finding what you like and shopping it around.

Stich........

Henkels slip joints are all made off shore now for the past couple of years and no longer made by Boker ......and Legion compare the Hen and Rooster to the Boker, see the similarity , guess who makes the Hen and Rooster.....though if you weren't totally pleased with the Boker you've had a number of good choices given...the older Klaas (which is a thinner frame) and the Bulldog Brand ..a 2004 3 5/8" Stag Congress (which still can be found in the $60-$70 range new).......

I think i found what i am looking for a Buck Creek Stag Bear and Bull Congress with carbon steel blades which is what i also prefer . Anybody have one of that brand ?

Boggs do you know who is making them these days? I have one from the mid-late 90's made by Boker it's put together well and the heat treat is good.

Henckels slip joints portion of the company was sold to Bud K a few years ago..so all the production is off shore, prior to that Stich, Boker produced the brand of slip joints....that would be the reason you no longer see slip joints on Henckels website.....and Legion you're right Frost owns the Buck Creek and Bear and Bull Brands now...though I don't know were they're produced....

Sonneman, that bulldog is very nice!
My shield did also come off within the first couple of weeks, a little super glue fixed that. As far as the grinds, they weren't the best, but I really thinned them out for whittling anyway, so it wasn't a big deal for me. I believe mine was made in 2008, the blades hold a good edge. I also have a recent Boker whittler that I haven't sharpened or used yet, but it also seems like a well built knife.

Thanks Boggs Stitch and everybody else i went ahead and ordered it before i spend my cash on something else the vendors going to pick a nice one for me . Heres a pic .
