One comment for anyone else browsing the older Henckels (boker made) the red shield is carbon steel and black shield is stainless.

My whittler is stainless and with proper edges it held strong for lots of hardwood carving. Don't be afraid of it for this

Boggs do you know who is making them these days? I have one from the mid-late 90's made by Boker it's put together well and the heat treat is good.

I think i found what i am looking for a Buck Creek Stag Bear and Bull Congress with carbon steel blades which is what i also prefer . Anybody have one of that brand ?

I gave one of the older ones (1990's) to my brother in law. He uses it daily and loves it.

This small Rough Rider congress turns out to be a decent economy option for trying the pattern out.
