stag cracked?

I was contacted by a customer about a knife I had made several years ago. It appears the stag has devoloped a small crack where it buts up to the spacer material. It's a cocobolo and if I remember corectly elk antler handle.

Think it was humidity changes that caused the crack?

I read part of a book by one of the knifemaking legends (can't remember which) and he said he did a lot of repairs early on and that most of the knives he repaired were because of antler handle. The repairs were not necessarily to knives that he made.

That a shame, because antler is realy a nice handle material. So far it's the only one I've gotten back. The knife is pristene, never been used, so it looks like the handle was never oiled or waxed, or oiled from handling.
