do you seal your deer antler knife handles?

i just made my first one and i am thinking of sealing the stag handle with satin polyeurothane.

is there something else i should use?

thanks

how about filling out your profile so we know a little more about you. as for the antler, i made a knfe for a state trooper around 13-14 years ago and all i put on it was some mineral oil. i seen it last year and it still looks just as good as the day i gave it to him. i dont think the polyurethane will hurt. i am going to put some in my vacuum chamber and stabilize some in polyurethane.

I like to seal the edges with superglue so blood doesnt discolor the soft pithy areas. I just keep wicking it and sand it smooth. The textured part gets the oil afterwards.
This is for full tang handles, for hidden tang I just oil it if there is no pith showing.

Maybeyou could use a jar of my Smutty Smitty's Pure Bee's Wax Boot and Stag Handle Balm! Often imitated but never duplicated!
