I really love this knife and wanted to share some pics of it out in the wild.
The weather reports said yesterday would be the best day of the week for decent weather in the mountains where I like to go, and gas prices are down, plus this is the week between deer & elk seasons so I filled the gas tank & hit the road for a day in the woods.:D

I was surprised at the variety of shrooms out there, but I don't know enough about them to harvest 'em so I just settled for pics instead.:o
I hope ya'll enjoy my wanderings as much as I did.:)

After wandering around I went to my camp site where I go to relax & built a little fire to warm up.
First I made some feather sticks out of some wood I'd split up a couple of months ago.
Trouble is, it was still damp.

So I found some fatwood and made some curlies.

But I couldn't get the fatwood curlies to ignite with the ferro rod I had so I grabbed the driest moss I could find hanging off some tree limbs.
But even then couldn't get a spark to take.

So I scrapped some fuzz off my jeans to add to the mix...

And Voila'!

Again..a big thanks to Charlie, John, Liam and Barry for their efforts in bringing us such a perfect pocket knife.

Very unique stag on that knife. I like it! The more I see of these pics the more I kick myself for not getting in on that buy.

Cool pics, thanks for sharing.

Nice "Adventure, with Fungus" Mykel!!:D

And thanks for the tips on fire-making!!

I would NOT eat any of those mushrooms, BTW!

Thanks for the great pics, that knife sure is a beauty

Thanks guys, it's my pride 'n joy!
I must admit to cheating by sanding the ridges smooth & staining it afterwards though.:o

I really enjoyed the photos. It's great you actually used the knife. The feather stick photos may be the first photos of the BF knife in hard cutting use (not just food/packages)!

May I ask what you used to stain it? I just can't get over the looks of that knife. I think I may have to do the same to mine (with your permission, of course).

Now that's a good day, I love nature and just hanging around in it.

That "dye" job you did on your jack looks amazing, especially out in the wild.

Be safe out there :)

Thanks TX,I'm sure others have been used harder than just a little wood carving though.;)

Thanks Parke.
I used Fiebings Medium Brown leather dye applied with a Q Tip, but dabbed most of the dye out of the cotton tip on a rag until it was just barely wet before applying it to the covers.
Good luck if you decide to do yours also.
Just remember, you can darken it, but will have to remove material if you want it lighter after applying the dye.

I LOVE the pics and that knife is a looker too! Great to see it at work making fire:D
Thanks Gevonovich it was my pleasure to post the pics.(as it was to be out there taking 'em)

You're going to scratch up your knife throwing it on the ground like that.

Lol...

Great pictures Mykel!!! I love being outdoors, I'm fortunate to be able to work outside most of the year but thankful to be indoors at minus twenty:o

You did a great job making that knife your own:thumbup:

Nice dye job, Mykel, and neat pics. I agree that those shrooms don't look very tasty...

Best fun and pics. Loved the line about the chipmunk trying to steal your knife. Lol.

Nice dye job. Reminds me of the buttery scales on my old man's Kissing Cranes congress he had back in the 70s and gave to me when I went to basic. I passed that knife on to my son years ago. I loved that honey butter look.

That SJ certainly has a look all is own and a great look it is. Thanks for sharing.
