An LF&C with Stag ???? Pretty nice !!!!!

Harry

Thanks, and good observation.
Genuine stag was used on table cutlery and later on fixed blade hunting knives from at least as early as the 1880s, and most likely since LF&C started their business in the 1860s.
"Stag" is one of those words which has been misused or misrepresented forever in the cutlery community. Many cutlery companies have used the word "Stag" in referring to several non-stag materials like "pic-bone" and various artificial materials for over one hundred years. Some companies will use the term "Genuine Stag" while others will say "Stag" in describing genuine stag, pic-bone, or some form of "simulated" stag like material. LF&C offered both "genuine stag" and what they called "perfect stag" (molded hard rubber) on their Bowie type hunting knives from the early 1900s to just prior to 1920. But, they often used the term "Stag" when actually referring to "perfect stag". LF&C Bowie type hunting knives continued on through the 1920s and 1930s but without genuine stag handles.
LF&C folding knives are another story...
