Mike Robuck Mike Robuck , that’s a beauty! I may have missed it before in this thread but would you care to post a shot sometime with the blades open?

joeradza joeradza , what a gorgeous Amherst, I love that bolster.

Holy Cow!! I guess I should say, Holy Buck!!:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup: This week's stag display is sensational!:thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:
Don't want to have TOO much of a good thing, so I'll turn down the heat a little with my Marble's lady leg. Believe it or not, that's supposed to be a little section of stag between the scrimshawed white bone and the bolster. ;)

May I ask if this is a 78? Kind of new to GEC. Just bought my first on a month or so ago. I bought a stag 81 but have been looking at the 78's.
It is a 77, which is very similar to the 78. The 78's have a wider blade and rounded bolsters. The 81s are sweet!! :) If you did pick up a 78 you would not be disappointed. Seems pretty much everyone who has them are quite satisfied, I know I like mine.

I'm telling you, it looks better every time I see it. It is a pleasure knowing it went to the right man. Happy 4th James
It has definitely become a favorite of mine, Alan. It's been good to see the stag being added to your herd as of late.:thumbsup:

Yes, Glenn did, once again, a stunning job on this one!
Thanks Perry! What more can I say then... the man has talent? :)

Thanks Jake. I posted it in the Sheffield thread a while back. Here's info on the company from a friend that knows way more than I do. "Tweedale's book says the Butler firm dates back to before 1774, and GEORGE Butler became boss and namesake circa 1837. Butler's acquired the ART (in the oval on the pile side of the blades) word mark in 1861. However, ENGLAND dates this knife after 1890, and the high quality construction suggests before 1915."
Levine's says the KEY mark was from Steer & Webster 1867
