Looks like Sambar to my eye, but it would be interesting to know the sources for Japanese makers - domestic or imported.

This is my first Vilar knife and I am super happy with it...I am already in the process of commissioning my second...

And, his mentor was the one who recommended Ricardo to me...I thanked him yesterday...
