1. How can you tell its a male in that engraving?
2. Do the Saami prefer female reindeer or do they use "geldings" to pull their sleds?

Not sure but a guess, even though I'm in Finland it's a part very far from Lapland. Male reindeer tend to have much bigger antler rack and are good deal bigger than females (who have antlers too but not as large) Males are larger thus better I suppose for pulling, as for geldings etc don't know. The Lapps/Sámi herd reindeer a lot but a lot of Lapland is tourist orientated so whether they still use reindeer day to day to pulls sledges-there is a word for them but I don't understand Sámi-I can't say. Snow scooters mobiles are the main thing.

Reindeer meat is very expensive here and not easy to get hold of, most stays in Lapland. Myself, don't like it much, tastes 'furry' nothing like Elk (Moose) or Venison which are good.

Red Sparrow, those are great patterns with great stag. Four winners!

Very nice! :D

If I wasn't awake before, that sure did it! Gorgeous selection!

great collection!
Thank you all for your likes and comments!:thumbsup: I know I'm very fortunate to have such special knives. They were acquired over several years and so was my appreciation of stag. After coming to understand it's usefulness, durability and beauty, stag has become one of my favorite handle materials.
The four knives posted above are IMO an outstanding part of my collection so I'm glad you enjoyed seeing them. Your positive response has got me thinking... "I'll have to try and get a group photo of my entire stag collection". Now all I need is a sunny day to make that possible.:)
