Stag slabs?

Anyone know how to make stage grips for full tang knives? How do you get them flat enough to put on with pins?

I'm about to do my first...just goin to band saw alittle thicker than sand the backside flat on the flat platen...then cut oversize to shape, then the pin holes, then epoxy and pin on, then finish sanding down to tang...thats my plan, we'll see how it works! Bill

Flatten the back however you go about doing it, on a glass plate or w/e. The easiest way to drill for pins is to take a piece of angle iron with holes in it larger than the ones you plan on drilling put the angle iron in the press vice and use padded clamps/vice grips to hold the slab to the angle iron. You put the slab on the bottom of the angle iron so you're drilling through the flat side first. I hope this made sense.
