Staghorn Dye process

Hi Dan, go for your life mate. Add it where ever you like.
Can't believe you guys are having such trouble finding the stuff. It use to be used for treating minor cuts and abbrasions. Don't buy the stuff that is ready mixed (liqiud form) as it is not strong enough and has a bunch of other stuff in it. Also the stain stays purple. Don't give up on it guys, really is the easiest and most natural method for staining antler
:)

thanks Pete
if it stays purple what are you doing with it for the brown?
will it just change to brown after time? or after working it:( :)

The crystals mix into solution as purple looking but it will turn the antler brown. Just keep it in until you get the color you want.

whooooo whooooaaa Thanks all
I got some today at Sears
I wasn't asked if I was going to blow something up either:D
I used some and I see what you mean Tracey

do you have to neutralize it?
and can you just mix up a bunch and keep it in a colored jar ?
or in the dark? seams I read it should be keep in a brown jar for the best storage??

Dan, in my experience, the Potassium Permaganate solution breaks down in a few days and quits working. A chemist could tell us the reaction taking place on exposure to air or whatever I suppose. I dont think its worth the trouble of trying to sace it. Just mix up a new solution each time you need some. It only takes a few grains of the stuff anyway.
