So I'm taking a try at my first bigger sized bowie. With HUGE influence from Nick Wheeler. I've watched nearly all of his videos and can't wait to work on it. Anywho, I had the perfect size chunk of CPM154 left. So I decided to use it for this. My question is, when heat treating, (I plate quench my stainless), in order to drill the tang for pinning after its handled, could I simply hang half the tang outside of the plates when quenching to keep it soft? Or will this still achieve a bit of hardness? As carbon steels are a little easier to anneal, I see no other way.

It will still Harden, it's an air hardening steel. You could heat the tang to Dull red a couple of times and it will drill, or Drill it ahead of time

Derp...I don't know why I didn't think of that first. I don't know about pre drilling a hidden tang. Sounds like it could be a mess. But, I'll have to try one of these.
