Does anyone in this forum have ever tried to make stainless damascus using 440C as one of the alloys and had success?
How is it made without powder metalurgy?
Thanks

its forged like other non ss damascus but you need beefier equipment, it tends to be much harder to forge. and you need another borax or whatever its called to dissolve the chomiumoxide layer effectively, then you need to choose 2 ss that has at least a fairly similar hardening curve, i think this is the tricky part, but ss damascus can be done and has been for many years. good luck. i bet someone will chime in on what you need equipmentwise, all i know its alot of more work compared to regular damascus.

Please guys, more on this thread, I am sure there are many more who would like to know how this is done, I know I do !

i doint think there is any magic behind the process, checkout www.damasteel.biz if they can make it so can anyone else, well if they got appropriate equipment (probably a beefy powerhammer/airhammer or what they are called, the right "borax" (i know this is not the right word, is it called flux perhaps??) and 2 or more ss qualities that will match when hardening it.

Damasteel is not true damascus [folded metal] but is made from layers of powdered metal. Damascus has been made of stainless steel, copper alloys and titanium alloys .
