Let me start off by saying I'm a knife collector turning into a maker. I was wondering what most of you use when grinding stainless such as m390 ,cm154 and s30v.

Annealed or hardened?

I like the VSM ceramics for a cheap belt, or the yellow 967's for a better belt. The 967's cut well for a LONG time.

The ss is not hardened yet, also I do want quality over quantity as long as its not too far off of the cost effective scale. I will pay a little more for a belt that will last twice as long.
Thanks for the info!

Norton Blaze II for rough grinding and the 3M Trizact gator belts for finishing.

I have on order

KS101B #KS101B 2 X 72 J-FLEX GOLD 180 GRIT BELT BOX OF 10
KS102B #KS102B 2 X 72 J-FLEX GOLD 220 GRIT BELT BOX OF 10
IO72036 IO72036 36 grit 2" x 72" 3M Polycut Cubitron Belt
IO72080 IO72080 80 grit 2" x 72" 3M Ploycut Cubitron Belt
IG160 IG160 A160X (120) grit 2" x 72" 3M Trizact CF Belt

I guess I will be putting together a follow up order

I use the j-flex belts a lot for handle shaping, and a little bit for feathering in the edge, but not really for actual blade grinding. This cibutron's are good belts, but I've had better luck with the Blaze belts.
