Today I received the NIB stainless plain-edge Police that I have traded my Military for, and I'm IMPRESSED! VG-10 steel, blade sharp as a razor, Boye dent, SOLID feel...I think I have a new favorite Spydie!.:).

Congrats Dann

I'm waiting for the CF Police coming out in December to get my first Police model. Hope it's worth the wait!

I did a similar thing, only in reverse. Exchanged my SS Police for a PE Military. I am happy too... But now I miss my Police. Gotta get a new one... CF Police in December you say? lol :)

Ya know...I thought that I wanted a G-10 Police, but after "playing with" this stainless model for awhile now, I think I like it BETTER than the lightweight G-10 (or the CF) Police models 'cause the stainlees version just feels so...SOLID.

I agree with ya. I have a g-10 version and the ss police and I carry only the ss version. Mind you, I have only had the ss version for a week but I cannot think about not carrying it.

Wow, the Police model is going through a renaissance!

Still waiting for the SS serrated edged (had to have it with full serrations just for once) VG-10 Police I ordered last week. The internet knife dealer said he mailed it off on Monday but no sign of it yet. :(

Can't wait! May I live vicariously through you Glockman? How do you like it compared to the Mil?

Aside from the new VG-10 steel and Boye dent, is the basic design as it was when it first debuted over a decade ago or has it evolved?

It looks so damn cool with those brushed steel handles.

This still has to be the definitive, classic Spyderco. It would go well with cruising in a blue '69 Camaro down the highway, wearing a pair of mirrored Ray-Ban aviators, and a foul-mouthed raunchy girlfriend (who looks a lot like Madchen Amick) sitting shotgun...yeah, baby, yeah!...Well, for now I'm willing to settle for the Stainless Steel Police!

It suprised me when I bought a SS Police that it carries so well, you look at it feel it and think man this knife is big and wicked, then you slip it into your pocket and your like wow, you can't undrstand how well it carries untill you try it, then after that you don't want to bother with small puny knives. I bought mine maybe 8-9 years ago not sure exactly when and have used it in my EDC rotation every since. I'll get one of the new carbon fibers just so I have every model of police out but I can't see it beating the SS they will be just as good I'm guessing but dont see how you can get any better the the SS.

One note though, the SS scares the crap out of sheeples it's big it's shiny, its fully serrated (mine is) and just looks massive, but just tell them it says Police on it so it's just fine and for them to not be afraid. Oh yea says Spyderco on it to :)

I recently purchased a stainless steel SE Spyderco Police for my brother. He finally got a job as a police officer in my hometown after getting 2 other positions politically scammed away from him. I called and talked to him about the position and he told me that they get NO KNIFE ISSUE!!! I was stunned! My wife and I were so proud of him we got him the spydie. He really loves it...but I got to play with it for 1 hour before we sent it. The only thing I didn't like about it was the handle felt a little slippery. I don't know if I would want the thing sliding around in my hand if it was sweaty. You're gonna have to keep it fairly clean too if not oiled sometimes which will make it even more slippery. It was a little stiff coming out from factory just like most knives but cleared right up with some Tuf Glide! My brother starts Tuesday on his first shift and it makes me feel better that he has a sweet blade like that in his pocket. I have to admit though. The stainless did feel super solid. I think I'll stick to G-10 though..just my preference.

Although I only had possession of my Millie for a few days, I can say that I like the Police ALOT better! First, I found that I DON'T like liner-locks...AT ALL (being a "lefty", the blade would slightly un-lock when I held the handle tightly), and also the "back-lock" of the Police is alot more "lefty-friendly" (and safer) to use than the liner-lock of the Military.

Second, although it is slicker, the handle of the Police feels better in MY hand than the Millie did (I DIDN'T like the feel of the liner-lock release cut-out of the Millie.).

Third, I plan on eventually moving the pocket clip of my Police to the "other" side, and drilling & tapping into stainless steel rather than just G-10 is alot more secure. (I'm also probablly going to change it to "tip-up" carry while I'm at it.).

Fourth, I like the VG-10 steel of the (new) Police models better than the CPM440V of the Millie.

And last, if needed, the pommel-end of the stainless Police model would make a better impact weapon than that of the Millie's handle, due to the shape and the material.

The ONLY thing that I like about the Millie over the Police is the larger "spyderhole" of the Millie.

After I move the pocket-clip of MY SS Police model, I plan on putting some Agrip on the non-clip scale, and that will solve the "slippery" problem very nicely. (I did the same on my Massad Ayoob folder, and the Agrip makes a world of difference!).

I suppose you can always advise your brother to get non-slip grip tape to put on the scales. Although that would defeat the aesthetics of the stainless handles. Those handles seem to exude the same intimidation factor as nickel plating on a .357 revolver.

The G-10 version just seems to lack that same kind of overt machismo IMO. It would be like putting an automatic transmission in a Porsche 911. It might be convenient but just doesn't seem right...

To me the stainless handles, and the low profile blade with full serrations is what makes the Police look cool. It looks like a psychotic barracuda with a Type A personality.

No doubt G-10 handles are more practical, but this is the one knife for me where the looks reign supreme.

Woo hoo! I just got a call from my buddy who works as a postal inspector saying he saw a package for me and it should be delivered in the next couple of days. That must be my SS fully serrated Police I ordered!

It's like X-Mas coming a month and a half early! :)

Don't get me wrong, the SS police model looks fantastic and it feels the same way in your hand. My brother told me that he will most likely have his gloves on anyway when he used it so that would take away the slip problem. It always is a matter of taste which is why there is so many quality knife brands and knives out there. The police is an original that so many people have tried to copy. I am getting my Military for the holidays I think so I will tell you guys how I like it when I get it. Hopefully I like it better than glockman but I am a right hander. Make sure you tell us all how you like the police after a few weeks of wear and tear glockman. Also, I would love to know how handy that REALLY pointy tip is.

Got both the millie and the ss police. I would have to side with the miilie for this one. Both are great but for my uses, the police makes a real mess when I try to cut cardboard. I spend alot of time cleaning the teeth so I can do more cutting

I'm with jj... I like the weight and the general style of the mili, and I already have a Native, so I'm quite familiar with CPM440V.
Also I like how the liner engages, and it works quite well.

Adding in: The stainless handles on the Police look alot more slippery than they actually are when using them.

Im Jelaous!!! i want a police!! oh well im gettin a military soon. FINALLY!! so that will keep me very happy till i can scrape up some $$$ for a police ;)

If you can find one, try a Ti-Police. Still feels solid, but with less weight. Since I got mine I've been wondering why it took me so long to get a Police model. I just thought it wasn't for me. I was wrong.
How long has the Police been produced, is it the oldest Spyderco now?? Carlos?? Just wondering.

Blades

The SS Police was my first Spyderco, which I bought in August of this year. Now I have 15. I guess I got it bad, eh? One question though. The blade on my Police appears to be centered perfectly, however, it rubs the liners on the way out. Makes a little "shing" sound as it leaves the closed position. It happens whether I'm using it right handed or left handed. No marks on the blade that I can see. Is this normal?

I know what you mean Tech.I only had one spydie for about 6 months and then wham!!. I have been buying em like crazy as well.
I have bought twelve since July.
