This chopper is 13.25" OAL, with 7" blade. The blade is 416 stainless and W2 core. 1/4" at the ricasso with lots of distal taper (spine shot later). Balance point probably an inch or so in front of the ricasso. The handle is curly maple and of morticed, hidden tang contruction. The guard is a combination of some home smelted bloomery iron (made by Mark Green) and some of my orishigane steel made from wrought iron nails. It was all run through my Aristotle furnace and sparks at about 1095.. this was a small piece of an awkward size that I set aside during refinement... very unrefined right now.. but lots of character!

It is flat ground all the way to about zero and then slightly convexed. Very aggressive cutter with good edge durability.

And here is a 4" Japanese style utility knife from wrought iron/1084 san mai I'm making for a forumite here. I was so happy with how the wrought pattern looked on it I decided to show it. I will have a mammoth ivory ferrule and probably claro walnut handle....

both look great to my eye! I sure do need to get a stainless/carbon or tool steel sanmai to enjoy.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks guys...

I know a brother-in-law of a cousin of an uncle who makes those things... ;) :-)
