I am going to purchase a stainless Spyderco and have it engraved by Books Burt to use as a dress/gentlemans knife. The question is, which one? Native II, Delica II, stainless Calypso lightweight, or stainless worker? Or maybe even a rookie? I normally like bigger knives for everyday carry, but I am looking for something that a little smaller to use as a good looking dresser knife. I don't want something so small that it isn't usable. I also want a decent steel. I hear alot of good things about the AUS-10 on the Native II. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

How about an Almite Walker? The engraving would show up nicely on the dark grey. SFO had them a couple weeks ago.

I' ve had a few Co- Pilots engraved for myself and some friends. They do add a touch of class and while it is a usable size for most non heavy duty chores, they double as a very nice money clip.

Shootist, I went through the same decision process you are going through. I ended up going with the Calypso Jr., I just like the feel of the handle style in my hand. The Calypso Jr. has nice flowing lines and I though it was a nice shape that would complement Brooks type of engraving. Well my wife has it wrapped up under the Christmas tree so I have a few days before I can fondle it. But my wife did look at it and she said if I didn't like it she would be happy to take it (fat chance), that's a pretty big complement from someone gives me that "look" everytime I bring a new knife into the house. I'll take a picture or a scan of it and post it on this forum.

Good luck.

I had a SS Dragonfly engraved for a friend of mine. He loves it.

It is rare, but I have seen a few stainless steel Solos. They come in a pouch and have no clip but they do look very classy. I guess a stainless steel clip on suit pocket doesn't look too cool anyway.

I have been looking for the same thing, a gentelman's spyderco pocket knife to supplement my new Military, would a Dragonfly with SS handles be the knife for my purpose?
Can any engraving be carried out by a regular Juweler's store? In other words, the steel handle is not too hard to engrave?

Mr. Blonde, the SS Dragonfly is a nice piece, I have the CF Dragonfly I ended up using it as a money clip. It’s quite a useable knife but it was just too small for me and required a little more dexderity for opening on a regular basis.

As for engraving I used to work in a jewerly/knife store and have engraved a few SS Spyderco’s with initials or names and they do engrave very nice, not too hard. The style of engraving Brooks uses is a little different, check out a SS Dragonfly he did: http://www.angelfire.com/wi/brooksburt/images/spyder2.jpg

I like the dragonfly. I have one to use for airline travel. It is a little small for what I am wanting right now. I think I am going to go with the Native II. I have already contacted Mr. Burt. I can't wait to get the knife and then get it back from Mr. Burt.

GET THE PEGASUS!!!!!!!! It is the right knife for a gentlemans blade. Mine is engraved by Brooks Burt, and I carry it every sunday to church. It fits the hand better then the Navigator.

TMac,
That is a Pegasus in the picture.

Just adding a bit to Tmacs reply: I had a Worker model engraved at a local jewelry store and it came out real nice. The young lady who performed for me seems to have done it on a regular basis.

Thanx for the info guys, I'll think I'll go with the SS Dragonfly. I very much like the shape and lines of that piece. It's also a good (and relatively cheap) opportunity to see if a knife that small is useful for me, I only got 3,5 to 4 inch folders you see. If I like small folders, I might go and save up for an Umfaan.

Ordered my Native II from MJS Knives. I already have a stainless dragonfly. I may have Mr. Burt do both. I really think the Native will look good. I decided on the Native because it is the correct size for what I want. It has a superior steel to the others (AUS-10). And I love the feel of this knife. As an added bonus it has a reversible clip. My son is left handed so I am sure he will be thanking me one day.

Automantic; the Co pilots were split among my friends and I. Mine is floating around on someones night table...

As for the Worker, that was done as a Birthday gift for a friend. So I am batting zero.

Happy Holidays!

Wow--That pix of the engraved Co-Pilot is spectacular. Can somebody tell me, how is engraving like that done? Hand tools? Chemicals?? And how can I get hold of Brooks Burt? Thanks
