Hi, I'm new to this forum in general.. I posted yesterday on the survival forum about purchasing a new fixed blade for a camp knife..I don't want a dive knif I have several already..I want something I can get wet without worrying, but than back at cam rinse, dry and lubricate it. can regular aus 8 steel handle this kindo of abuse if cared for back at camp after the event?? just wondering thanks.

If you want a knife check out the spyderco salt line. They are made of H1 steel which will never rust no matter what. This blade steel has great edge holding as well. Also I believe the handles can come apart for easier cleaning of internal mechanisms.

I make knives for use in salt water, mostly fillet knives. If you rinse with fresh water and dry before putting away in the sheath the following steels have worked very well to resist corrosion.

ATS34/154CM, CPM154, S30V,90V,60V, 440C, AEBL, 12C27, 420HC. D-2 will do pretty good but you will eventually have troulble with it. AUS 8 should work fine.

For long term storage especially on a boat spray on a little PAM or wipe with mineral oil before putting it away... Phil
