Hey All,

I’m new here and also new to knife making. I’m looking to get a stainless steel blade blank and try making a handle for it.

My question/problem is this, I live in Canada and I’m not really sure where I’m able to get some stainless steel blanks, or some brands that sell blanks.

Thank you all very much for your help!

Hello and Welcome to the ZOO!:D Life will never be the same once you start making knives. Canadianknifemaker.ca has a site you could start at! Do you want to grind your own knife? Or buy a pre ground & heat treated blade & put a handle on it!?

Great, I’ll check that site out. I would be looking for a pre ground and pre heat treated blade and just put a handle on it

If you live near the border your best bet is to have stuff shipped to a receiver on the US side and pick it up in person to bring it across the border. No hassle, no brokerage fees and you often don't even pay taxes if it is under $150. If you decide to have it shipped across the border you want to have it shipped USPS. They have reasonable brokerage fees. The couriers have stupid brokerage fees that are 50% or more of the value of the goods you are receiving. Stupid.

I dont' think canadian knife maker sells ground preheated blanks. Canadian Outdoor Equipment sells a variety of blanks https://www.canadianoutdoorequipment.com/helle-blade-blanks.html if you want to order from a Canadian company. If you look at the states, Knife and Gun is a good place https://www.knifeandgun.com/ and Jantz in a good place too. https://www.knifemaking.com/default.asp Lots of possibilities.

E-mail me at WJKrywko at gmail dot com. Let me know the steel preference and price range and we can work something out. I’d be happy to profile and grind blades for you. To make it most economical, you can do the final finishing on the blade, and I can even supply you with economical wood to use for handles. I have a lot of end cuts from other projects that would be great for getting started.
