Stainless Steel GECs

Trand...

thank you for posting these..I've been wondering what the short runs of #48's where going to look like..the dyed curly maple, grizzly jig, cherry jigged and tractor red are great

Thanks Jim. GEC had a pic of the #48 short runs on their site for a few days but its not up anymore. The Grizzly and Tractor are 1 of 3. The Cherry and Maple are 1 of 2 with the maple being a FTR. I wasn't able to get my hands on the 1 of 1 Sunset yellow jig or 1 of 1 amber looking bone. For the 2 blades, it looks like there was 1 Cherry, 1 Sunset and 1 of the unknown amber config.

Trand,
thanks for the photo book :)
Since you seem to own a couple of 440C GEC's , do you have any stainless single blade #73? I rememmber seeing some pictures but I can't find them and I'm beginning to think that I may have dreamed about them... :p

Yep Fausto, I have one of those :) I believe there was a SFO for these in Burnt Stag, a red bone, and 1 more that escapes me. I believe there were either 50 or 100 of each made. The SFO is in 420HC though instead of 440C.

Edit: I just checked the 2008 totals and they also list a FTR in American Elk but I don't recall ever seeing one.

Trand,
thank you. I knew that, if there ever was one, you would know about it :D
And, as you know, the elk scales already got me :)

Here are some of the newest #73ECs. American Elk, American Walnut, and Frontier bone.

Good stuff, Trand! I really like the Elk that GEC has been putting out in the last year or so. I need to get one.

Thanks Rick. I like that they've been putting more of it out too. Here's the back side of the knife.

Trand,
thanks for posting them. As you know, I like GEC's elk, but walnut ain't bad either :)
We just ned to wait for the walnut single blade #73...or #66...or #68...or #56...

Thanks Fausto. There is a lot of variation in the Walnut in this run but it all looks good. And I think you're missing the #73LL, #85, and a #48 Jack :)

Trand,
you may be right about the #85 for sure (not a fan of locking #73's), we'll see what patterns GEC comes out with in 440C first...

And I got another GEC #25. This time in Grape.

I've been wondering if and when a Grape might turn up.

Another sweet little 25. :-)

-- Are the squirrel etches on these stainless steel models as ephemeral as those on the others, ie, non-stamped? I love the combination of the acorn shield with the squirrels on the blade, and -- unlike the other blade etches-- would be sad to lose them.

Thanks Rick and P!!

The etches on the 440c are more durable than on the 1095. Using Flitz for example will lighten it up but not make it go away completely.

I like the etches on the 440C models too. They are more subtle and the design looks better to me.

Trand, we must have had the same train of thought. :) I've had this one for less than a week.

P, it's all your fault with that thread you started a while back.

O, tell me about it. I'd say that I'd doubled the number of 25s in my own selection since then, but 0 x 2 is still zero. ;)

I'm aiming for a knife in September that I've already begun unrealistically affectionately referring to as "The Last Knife."

Think it will work? Uh, maybe don't answer that.

Regardless, I should maybe make the most of the time between now and September, just in case.
