Stainless Steel is not just stainless steel .

Indeed, some of the counter boys really know their stuff.
Like there was this sales assistant whom when I asked about the steel type;
And his reply was,
"It's a top dollar steel, and I'ld be very careful that knife... It's really sharp"...
Needless to say, if A customer didn't know any better,
That was expert salesmanship opinion at work.
Imho, don't waste your time asking about specs,
if you can google it up.

I'm more surprised a custom maker left their goods at a retailer without any information. Some people like a sterile blade with no markings but you'd figure they'd at least leave a Birth Certificate with info on it or something...

Usually they say a lot of fluff and don't tell me what I want to know. But I'm sure I'm pickier than most consumers.
A tutor of mine used to reminisce about one of his heroes / tutors. He said "Yah he used to say now . . . now it is all just BUZZWORDS and GENERALITIES . . . buzzwords and generalities".

When I was a teenager I would have sold my sister for one of these. I have no idea what steel it is. Point being, there are idiots who will buy anything.

Can Anyone tell me what steel this is?

When BassPro opened in Calgary in 2007 I happened to be there and ran into Chuck Buck, organizing the knife display. Didn't know who he was at first but he was really knowledgeable and I thought BassPro had recruited some impressive candidates. Then I saw his name tag, and we had a great conversation about blades, and he even autographed my 110 which I happened to be carrying that day. Since then, the few clerks I've seen at BassPro have a hard time figuring which is the pointy end.

That knife "expert" sounds a lot like the automotive "expert" at my local O'zone auto parts store.

It surprised me to. If it was my store, I wouldn't put it on display unless it had some type of paperwork with it.

silver, that model was speciality made model for the military and there is a book out on it by
Rich Neymans. I can't recall the steel but he states it. Those were made at a time when Buck was using 425M across their product line.? DM

Keep in mind "locally made" is relative - local to the USA, China, Pakistan (not that there's anything wrong with that). To parrot the consensus here, 99.999% of store clerks won't have .1% the knife knowledge of the average BF knutnick. Google it.
